Absolutely Essential
Review Date: June 9, 2005
Reviewer: Jennifer L. Noteman, Columbus, OH USA
This book is absolutely essential for any attorneys practicing in this field. Ms. Burda has put together not only the laws and state of affairs across the country but she has also included the much needed forms in order to accomplish the task. After all of our years in law school, only Ms. Burda has shown us exactly what these documents are supposed to look like!
A must for every gay, lesbian, or lawyer who represents them
Review Date: March 6, 2005
Reviewer: Gutman,
Finally, the book I've been looking for! Straightforward and easy to understand, this book belongs in the hands of every gay, lesbian and lawyer who represents them. Even if you're neither, I still recommend this book to anyone over the age of 13 who simply knows a same-sex couple.
Have you ever felt so strongly about a book's merits that you want to say "Buy this book, or I'll shoot your dog?" This book falls into that category.
It's a book for everyone
Review Date: March 15, 2005
Reviewer: Sarita Liebkind,
Remember the ad campaign "You don't have to be Jewish to love Levy's rye bread?" Well, you don't have to be gay, lesbian, of any particular gender, or even a lawyer -- to find this book useful.
This book is the first to comprehensively set out the law and process for estate planning for same-sex couples. Moreover, it doesn't fall into a trap of politics or lawyer-talk. It's filled with practical and reasonable approaches.
A Vital Guide to the Changing Legal Landscape
Review Date: March 21, 2006
Reviewer: D'Arcy Kemnitz, Washington, DC, United States
Attorney Burda has done the impossible, writing a "black-letter law" treatise in an easy-to-read and enjoyable style.
Practitioners will find it informative for its nuts-and-bolts practice tips, while members of the public will take away a 'how-to' roadmap (with forms!) when planning to protect themselves and their families.
I recommend this book without reservations -- not only for attorneys practicing in this field, but for smart individuals across the nation who attempt to balance the scales of justice while usually suffering inequitable treatment under the laws.
The definitive work
Review Date: June 3, 2005
Reviewer: Jennifer J. Rose,
This book is more than what its title portends. More than a primer, it's an essential in every lawyer's library, filled with common-sense approaches to difficult issues. I would've killed to have this book available a decade ago.
You're not an estate-planner or even a lawyer, you say? Not to matter. Its readability makes plain and perfect sense to layfolks as well.
